5 Things in Your Kitchen You Probably Aren’t Cleaning

Kitchen and Bath Depot • Sep 29, 2017

Whether you have a little bundle of joy on the way, or you already have some toddlers still learning to crawl or even walk around your kitchen, you know how fantastic parenthood can be. But although the kitchen can be the place where everyone wants to meet up, it can also be a dangerous place to be, especially for your curious little ones. Here are some of our favorite tips for creating a childproof kitchen to keep you, your family, and your remodel safe.

Kitchen Cleaning To-Dos:

Your Refrigerator’s Crisper

Before you can begin any kitchen remodeling or renovation project, you should go through a full kitchen cleaning process.

You should stick to a schedule where you clean out and clean up your refrigerator. If you don’t maintain the inside of your fridge as fastidiously as you might scrub down the exterior surface, there’s no telling what sorts of nasty surprises could be lurking inside. Take, for example, your refrigerator’s crisper. In this compartment, many people often store their freshest fruits and vegetables. But if you’re not careful, all kinds of germs and bacteria can start growing inside the crisper. Keep your entire family healthy! So, once a month, you should sanitize the crisper and the other drawers with some water and a mild detergent.

Rubber Seals for Smaller Appliances

Overlooking the rubber seals in your smaller appliances is easy. These can become havens for bacteria as well. Whether it’s the components of your trusty blender or the containers you use for leftovers, if it has a rubber seal, then it needs to be kept clean and sanitary like anything else. Make sure you can put them in the dishwasher. If they’re not dishwasher safe, you might just have to wash them by hand with soap and hot water.

Your Kitchen Sink

While your kitchen sink is the first line of defense against that pile of dirty dishes, they can be another breeding ground for an onslaught of germs. Every time you’re done using it, you should clean it with some hot water. You should also wipe it down with a disinfectant wipe to keep it as clean as possible in between dish duties.

Cutting Boards

Cutting boards are often used for preparing raw meat, seafood, and veggies before you cook them, so when you’re done, don’t forget put them through the dishwasher or wash them by hand.

Coffee Pots

A strong cup of coffee might give you the jolt you need to clean all of these other parts of your kitchen – just remember to give your coffee pot a good cleaning once all the java is gone!
